"Impacting Childrens Lives through Golf"

2010 Golf Marathon

September 10th is the date for the 2nd annual Jim Ager Golf Marathon. Our goal is to have 60 highly motivated players to help us in our quest of raising the funds to replace our leaky and outdated irrigation system. It sounds like a tall order, but we are confident that with 1 year under our belt, this year's event should be even better.

The 1st annual Jim Ager Memorial Golf Marathon was a huge success and we are going to build on that success in 2010. The Jim Ager Memorial's mission is to "Impact Children through Golf". The money we raised will go a long ways towards ensuring the Jim Ager will continue to be second to none when it comes to Junior Golf. Our ultimate goal is to replace a worn out and crippled irrigation system. The replacement of this system will save us a tremendous amount each year, enough that our golf course should be self sufficient and not have to rely on being supported by the other municipal golf courses. The future of Lincoln's only golf course dedicated to beginners is unsure and we want to leave no doubt that the Ager will always be here.

The Jim Ager Memorial has been a valuable asset to the city of Lincoln for over forty years. We prepare not only junior golfers but beginners of all ages to graduate to Lincoln's 18-hole courses with the knowledge and skills they need to make the transition. There may be a few programs you are not aware of at the Ager: We coach Lincoln's Special Olympic Golf Team who will be competing in this summer's Special Olympics which will be held here in Lincoln for the first time. The Ager is also involved in teaching physically handicapped golfers who are recovering from accidents or strokes. There are several free golf clinics each summer that are made available at no charge for underpriveleged children who otherwise would not get the opportunity to be exposed to the game.

Everyone involved with the Jim Ager Memorial wants to make it even better and to impact even more lives, but we can't continue to grow and offer even better service to the community without your support. We need as many motivated individuals as we can get to participate in the event and take pledges.

If you are interested is participating, please call Scott Weihe at the Ager G.C. (402) 441-8963 or Tim Rowland at Pioneers G.C. (402) 441-8966, they are the event coordinators.

If you would like to make a pledge, please call the Jim Ager or stop by and fill out a pledge form. You can even print out a sponsor form or marathon application - just click on the tab above. (your donation is tax deductable).

2009 Marathon Update

17 golfers played a total of 859 holes on Friday at Pioneers G.C. in the 1st Annual Jim Ager Golf Marathon. Steve Stevenson lead the way, he played 109 holes of golf - impressive! The pledges made were equally impressive: to date we have raised over $15,000 with more trickling in each day. There were a total of 148 sponsors of the event and these funds help to ensure the future of the golf course. I would like to say thanks on behalf of the Jim Ager Memorial to all who were associated with the event. Not only did we really do some good for the community, it was also really fun. Thank You

Scott Weihe, PGA
